William Eugene "Gene" Honbarrier
William Eugene "Gene" Honbarrier, Sr., 77, of Granite Quarry, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022.
He was born April 18, 1944, in Rowan County, to the late Mack and Estella Kesler Honbarrier. Mr. Honbarrier was a member of Union Lutheran Church and retired as the Superintendent from the Town of Granite Quarry. He was a member of Granite Quarry Civitan Club, Granite Quarry Fire Department, the Gold Wing Association, and was an avid supporter of Rowan County American Legion Baseball. Gene was a gifted woodworker who loved using his tools, gardening, and cooking. He enjoyed animal sounds and giving nicknames. Christmas was his favorite time of the year and he especially loved being around family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Kluttz Honbarrier; brother, Howard Lewis Honbarrier; and sisters, Margie Casper and Kaye Jones.
Gene is survived by his sons, William Eugene Honbarrier, Jr., and William Dean Honbarrier and fiancée, Leesa Dawn Chaney; brother, Bob Honbarrier and wife, Peggy; and grandson, Raylan Levi Lewis.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 7, in the chapel of Powles Staton Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Clyde Akers and Rev. Heidi Punt. Burial will follow in Union Lutheran Church Cemetery.
