The funeral will be Saturday for James "Jim" Spencer Wilhelm, 91, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2004) at his home after two years of declining health.

Born Jan. 30, 1913, in Rowan County, Mr. Wilhelm was a son of the late Vastine Stickley and Alice Virginia Mesimer Wilhelm and the stepson of the late Emma Frances Wilhelm. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and received welding certification in Wilmington.

During World War II, he worked building ships at the shipyard in Newport News, Va. A welder with Isenhour Brick and Tile, he retired in 1973 after 36 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a former member of the council and property committee, and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Woodman of the World.

Survivors include wife Sadie Louise Stoner Wilhelm, whom he married Jan. 28, 1939; son Ken Wilhelm, Salisbury; brothers Dwight and Carl Wilhelm, both of Salisbury; sisters Virginia W. Yost, Jennie W. Barrier and Beatrice W. Jordan, all of Rockwell; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William S. Ketchie. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday in the church parlor. At other times, the family will be at the home.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorials: Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice; or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Flower Fund.
