GRANITE QUARRY - Mr. Clarence Shuford Pickler, 80, of Granite Quarry, passed away April 9, 2013, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Mr. Pickler was born Dec. 5, 1932, son of the late Shuford Reather Pickler and Lelia Ward Pickler. Educated in Rowan County schools, he had worked for Frank Fisher Construction, Conrad Bost Construction and was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement.
Mr. Pickler was a lifelong member of Lyerly Evangelical Church, a past choir member, and had shared his wood working skills with the church. He was instrumental in helping the church grow. He loved going to yard sales and collecting antiques.
Mr. Pickler was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Canup Pickler, on Nov. 5, 2007; a brother, Claude Robert Pickler; and a sister, Dorothy Pickler.
Survivors include son Rev. Paul L. Pickler and wife Debbie of Salisbury; grandchildren Jennifer Linker and husband Beau, Matthew Shuford Pickler and wife-to-be Carlie Watson; great grandson Jackson Linker, sister Margaret Smith of Granite Quarry; a number of nieces and nephews; and Mickey his dog and faithful companion.
Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Lyerly Evangelical Church of Rockwell conducted by Dr. W.C. "Junior" Gaither, pastor, and Rev. Beau Linker. Mr. Pickler will lie-in-state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
Visitation: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11 at Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell.
