RICHFIELD - Ronald Lee "Butch" Basinger, 60, of Panther Point, formerly of Davidson County, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at his residence.

Born Oct. 3, 1946, in Rowan County, Mr. Basinger was a son of Robbie Wyrick Basinger of Salisbury and the late Zeb Ben Basinger. Educated in Rowan County schools, he worked for Ray Construction as a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Basinger volunteered for the United States Marine Corps in 1964, being trained in guerrilla warfare. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device; Good Conduct Medal; and Meritorious Mast.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Surviving are brothers James "Jim" Basinger and wife Linda of Richfield and Benny Basinger of Salisbury; and best friend Patricia Powlas of Salisbury.

Graveside Service: 11 am Thursday at Salisbury National Cemetery with the Rev. Don Safrit officiating.

Visitation: 9:30-10:30 am Thursday at Lyerly Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Memorials: American Cancer Society, Rowan Relay for Life, or Hospice of donor's choice.
