Sunday, April 22, 2012 — Mary Ellen Tucker, age 61, of Chapel Hill, N.C. died in her home.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Albemarle. Pastor Judy Copeland officiated and burial was in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family received friends following the service on Saturday at the church.
Born July 8, 1950 in Stanly County, N.C., she was the daughter of Cleona Lambert Tucker of Albemarle and the late Roy Alexander Tucker, who preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Library Science was an employee of the Highway Safety Research Center at the UNC School of Public Health.
She was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and was a published author. She loved nature and animals and was an avid reader and writer. She consulted with the National Transportation Board in Washington, D.C. in setting guidelines for grant applications.
One brother, James Lambert Tucker, preceded her in death.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 429, Oakboro, NC 28129 or to the Stanly County Humane Society, PO Box 1632, Albemarle, NC 28002.
