Jacob Ray Fisher

Jacob Ray Fisher, 84, of Gold Hill, formerly of Faith, passed away Wednesday February 8, 2017 at Autumn Care Nursing Home into the arms of our Lord and Savior. Ray was born Oct. 22, 1932 to the late Clarence Robert and Margaret Collins Fisher in Cabarrus County.

He was a lifetime member of Organ Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, and was a usher and greeter. He went to Mt. Pleasant High School where he played on the first varsity football team and then played American Legion baseball as pitcher for Kannapolis. Ray worked for Owens Illinois in Spencer, and retired as a Supervisor after 32 years of service.

Ray served in the United States Army as a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne for two years during the Korean War. He was in the Civitan for 25 years, town alderman of Faith for 6 years, and was awarded the Community Service Award. Ray was known as the "Walking Man" of Faith, he loved to play golf, care for his yard, and dance to beach music. While living in Faith, he never missed a 4th of July parade until last year. In 1992 he shook the hand of our 41st President George H.W. Bush when he came to visit the town of Faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his former wife, Duree Hodges Fisher; a brother, Clarence Fisher; two sisters, Mary Louise McManius and Carolyn Jones.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 6 years, Margaret Shue Fisher; two sons, Franklin Brady (Si), and Clifford "Phil" Brady (Sandra) of Gold Hill; four daughters, Revonda Brady (Connie) of Greensboro, Gail Foster (John) of Gold Hill, Cynthia Mackin (Dan) of Matthews, and Angie Freeze (Dale) of China Grove; eleven grandchildren, Jason Foster, Jeremy Foster, Ashtyn Corriher, Lauren May, Matthew Brady, Spencer Kottyan, Macy Kottyan, Derek Freeze, Ashley Freeze, Leslie Freeze, and Erin Freeze; four great-grandchildren, Ganon and Elinn Foster, Easton May, and Case Foster; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday February 10, 2017 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Organ Lutheran Church (1515 Organ Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146) conducted by Pastor Carlin Ours and Pastor Eddie Pless. Military Honors will be provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the North Carolina Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank Autumn Care and the entire staff for the wonderful care Ray received. Also a special thanks to Dr. Shellhorn and Dr. Barrier and their staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church (1515 Organ Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146).
