Charles A. Ford

SALISBURY - Mr. Charles Allison Ford, 80, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at The Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks of Salisbury.

Charles was born May 14, 1933, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the son of the late Francis Kammer Ford and Irene Irish Ford.

Charles was educated in the Niagara Falls Elementary School, Gaskil Junior High School and was a 1955 graduate of Throgs Neck New York Maritime College, where during the summers he sailed on various Naval Ships as part of his education. After graduating, Charles entered the U.S. Navy as Ensign, going to Mobile, Ala., for training.

After his active duty with the Navy, Charles joined the reserves and began a 27-year career with General Electric. He worked with the Air Craft Engine Group in Europe.

Charles and Jo were members of the International Model "T" Ford Club. They traveled all over the United States with their cars, driving them. They did not trailer them. Charles was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Rockwell.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Francis Ford.

Survivors include wife Jo Hoffman Ford, who he married Nov. 29, 1975; daughters Donna Werntz and husband Carl of Morgantown, W.Va., and Karen Christina Ford of Buffalo, N.Y.; granddaughter Shannon Ford Werntz; brother Robert Malcom Ford, Grand Island, N.Y.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Rockwell.

Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell, conducted by Rev. David Martin, interim pastor, and Rev. Ed Harper.

Interment will follow at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Salisbury, with Military Rites by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and NC National Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ford Music Scholarship Fund, St. James Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 486, Rockwell, NC 28138 and the Ford Music Scholarship Fund, (Music Dept) at Lenoir-Rhyne University, P.O. Box 7227, Hickory, NC 28603; or Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
