Opal V. Jones Corl

ROCKWELL - Opal V. Jones Corl, 83, of Rockwell, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born June 13, 1925, in High Point, she was the daughter of the late William Clyde Jones, Sr. and Laura Gurley Jones.

Opal was educated in the Rowan County Schools and China Grove High School. She had worked for Cannon Mills in China Grove, and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Rockwell, where she was a past Sunday School Teacher, and had sung in the choir for many years. She enjoyed spending time at Carolina Beach.

In addition to her parents, Opal is also preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Corl; brothers, Paul Eugene Jones and William Clyde Jones, Jr.

Survivors include sons, Ricky Drew Corl of Salisbury, and Randy "Huck" Corl and wife Belinda of Granite Quarry; brothers, Guy M. Jones of China Grove, James A. Jones of Rockwell; sister, Cleo Jones Ward of Newnan, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew Corl and wife Ashley, Murphy Corl and Meagan Corl of Rockwell; great granddaughter, Emery Mae Corl; step-grandchildren, Erica Nelson and husband Justin of Cleveland, and Amanda Wirz and husband Jon of China Grove.

Visitation: 9:30-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church of Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church of Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Matthew Laughter, Associate Pastor, and Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, Sr., former pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rockwell.
