Tuesday, September 22, 2009 — M.L. Bowers Jr., 85, formerly of 20605 Austin Road, Oakboro, passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2009, at Britthaven of Piedmont in Albemarle.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Larry Austin and Rev. Adam Hatley will be officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will gather at the Bowers old home place, 20413 Austin Road.

Mr. Bowers was born May 24, 1924, to Luther and Mary Deese Bowers. He was a life long farmer who loved his family, Stanly County dirt, his cows and his peach orchard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha Huneycutt Bowers; brothers, Horace Bowers, Roy Bowers and Marvin Bowers; and sisters, Bessie May Trivette and Geneva Bowers.

He is survived by his son, Doug and wife, Myra, of Albemarle; daughters, Nancy Bowers Hatley and husband, Bud, Lynn Bowers Hunter and husband, Louie, all of Oakboro; grandchildren, Nadalie Bowers, Joy Bowers Greene, Adam and Jason Hatley; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Hatley and Lillian Poplin.

Memorials may be made to: Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church or Hospice of Stanly County.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge.
