Notes for Lola Mae Goodman
Lola Mae Goodman Arey File

SALISBURY - Lola Mae Goodman Arey File, age 96, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully and entered the presence of the Lord Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at her residence. Her passionate love for Christ and strong commitment to serving others was evident throughout her 96 years.

She was born Sept. 5, 1918, to the late John C. Goodman and Dora Earnhardt Goodman. Her early school years were spent first at Union Academy, located then at Union Lutheran Church, and then continued at Granite Quarry High School. School lines changed during that time and she graduated from East Spencer High School.

Lola was a former member of Union Lutheran Church from her birth until 1941. She was baptized and confirmed at Union. After her marriage in 1941 she moved her membership to Grace Lutheran Church. Her activities and participation at church were many. She was a member of the Adult Senior Sunday School Class, The Barbara Deal Circle, and The Amazing Grace Senior Citizen Group. She loved her church, and her church family was her inspiration.

One of her joys of life was caring for others, and she fulfilled this by being a caregiver for many church members and others. She also was a caregiver of God's earth by gardening and tending her flowers. This love of labor was also shared with everyone.

Preceding her in death on Dec. 5, 1960, was her first husband, Arthur Lee Arey; and her second husband, Lee Roy File, died on Jan. 20, 1989. Also preceding her in death was an infant daughter; and brother Lee Goodman.

She was a loving, devoted and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her time spent with family, and she leaves them a legacy of Christian faith and love.

Lola is survived by her loving family: son David Lee Arey (Jackie); daughter Elizabeth File Brady (Jim); daughter-in-law Debbie T. Rinehart; grandchildren Melissa A. Arey, David Lee Arey Jr., Eric D. Brady (Ann), Brad D. Brady (Heather), Eric G. Taylor, Emily T. Harrison (Levi), Ellis R. Taylor; great-grandchildren Dylan T. Ridenhour, Logan Arey Ridenhour, Kristen M. Brady, Ryan Lee Brady, Bell Elizabeth Brady, Gavin R. Harrison.

She was employed at Sipes Furniture in Landis until it closed and then Loeblein Brothers in Salisbury for 16 years until she retired.

Agner, Kristin Chesney, Assistant Nurse, and the staff of Rowan Diagnostic Clinic. Special thanks of appreciation and love to all her friends who so faithfully came to assist, visit and check on our loved one. You brought her so much comfort and she loved you dearly.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." (II Timothy: 4:7-8)

Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the File family.
