SALISBURY - Lawson Alexander "L.A." Goodman, Jr., 75, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at his residence. 

Mr. Goodman was born July 17, 1932, in Stanly County, the son of the late Lawson Alexander Goodman, Sr. and Luvina Eller Goodman. He was a 1950 graduate of Rockwell High School and retired from Duke Power Buck Steam Station. 

Mr. Goodman was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, assistant treasurer and also served on various other committees. He was also a member of the choir and the brotherhood. 

He loved woodworking, loved being outdoors, gardening and spending time with family.

Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife, Louise Agner Goodman of Salisbury; son Bill Goodman of Salisbury; daughters Phyllis Eller and husband Mickey of Salisbury, Debbie Holshouser and husband Kyle of Salisbury; grandchildren Buddy Eller, Andy Goodman, Angie Goodman and Alex Holshouser; brother Vance "Jack" Goodman of Concord; and sister Clara Trexler of Gold Hill. 

Mr. Goodman was preceded in death by his stepmother, Clara Eller Fortson; a son Rodney Goodman; five brothers; and two sisters. 

Service: The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Benny Vickery, pastor, and Rev. Matthew Laughter, Minister of Children and Youth. Mr. Goodman will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home from 6-8 tonight.
