Ruth Lackey Agner

Mrs. Ruth Lackey Agner, 96 of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Agner was born August 20, 1920 in Rowan County, Steele Township, she was the daughter of the late Dorce Charles Lackey and Mattie Kennerly Lackey.

She was educated in Rowan County Schools and was a long time member of Providence United Methodist Church which she faithfully attended and served prior to her declining health. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and daughter-in-law, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and fishing trips with her husband.

Carl J. Agner, her husband of 54 years, preceded her in death in May of 1995. In addition, she was also preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Dollie, Georgie and Lavaye Lackey and 4 brothers, Albert, Carl, Jimmie Lee and Steven Lackey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Linda Broadway and husband Patrick of Salisbury, son Jerry Agner and wife Felicia of Blacksburg, SC, son Charles Agner and wife Donna of Salisbury, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 7 nieces and 9 nephews.

A special Thank You to the Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care Team for their support and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4th at Powles Staton Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 5th at Providence United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Aldana Allen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
