Betty S. Morgan

ROCKWELL - Betty Sides Morgan, 84, died peacefully March 8, 2014.

Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Rockwell to the late Maude Lefler Sides and Lewis Eliam Sides, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Gilbert Morgan, in 2012; brother John Robert Sides in 2007; and sister Frances Sides Moss in 2012.

Betty graduated with honors from Rockwell High School in Rowan County, where she had a perfect attendance record for 12 years. She enjoyed several clerical positions, working part-time to be with her children. She retired from Lutheran Family Services Counseling Center in 2001.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother devoted to her family, especially her two grandsons and granddaughter. They were the joy of her life.

Betty is survived by her son, Steve Morgan and his wife, Margot, of Charlotte; her daughter, Kaye Newell and her husband, Keith, of Union County; grandson Kevin Newell and his wife, Shannyn, of Rockville, Md.; grandson Corey Morgan of Charlotte; and granddaughter Megan Morgan of Charleston, S.C.

She is also survived by her brother, Bill Sides and wife Margie of Walkertown; sister Edith Sides Patterson and her husband, Bob, of Greenville, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was loved by many at Lawyer's Glen, her home for the past year, where the staff was devoted and loving towards her. Betty was known to all for her sweet nature and kindness.

Arrangements: The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at Morning Star Lutheran Church Chapel, 12900 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the chapel.

Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday after the service at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte, NC; or Morning Star Lutheran Church, Matthews, NC.
