Gilbert R. Morgan

MINT HILL - Mr. Gilbert R. Morgan, 82, of Mint Hill, passed away on Feb. 1, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Morgan was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Rowan County, son of the late Arthur Lee Morgan and Ella Casper. He attended Rockwell High School and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and International Correspondence Course in Engineering.

Mr. Morgan retired from Duke Power after 36 years of service in 1989, where he was a member of the Electrical Maintenance and Construction team. He was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church in Matthews. He loved to salt water fish at Atlantic Beach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Spencer Morgan, Herman Morgan and Lincoln Morgan; and sisters Virginia Pool and Ruby Goodman.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Betty Sides Morgan, to whom he was married for 61 years; son Joel Steven Morgan and wife Margot of Mint Hill; daughter Kaye Morgan Newell and husband Keith of Monroe; grandchildren Corey and Megan Morgan and Kevin Newell and wife Shannyn; brother Ervin Morgan of Charlotte; sisters Betty Jean Morgan of Salisbury and Ruth Albright and husband Jimmy of Salisbury.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Morning Star Lutheran Church Chapel, 12900 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC 28105.

Service: The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Morning Star Lutheran Church Chapel conducted by Rev. Timothy Glenham and Rev. John Mouritsen.

Burial: Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte, NC; or Morning Star Lutheran Church, Matthews, NC.
