Velma Lambert Earnhardt
Velma Lambert Earnhardt, 98, of Shallotte, NC, formerly a lifelong resident of Albemarle, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, Bolivia, NC. Her graveside service will be at 11am on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Canton Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Giddens officiating. The family will greet friends following the graveside service.
Mrs. Earnhardt was born April 9, 1922 in Stanly County, NC, the daughter of the late Theodore R. Lambert and Elva Victoria Burleson Lambert. Velma was a homemaker and a faithful member of Canton Baptist Church.
“Nana,” as she was known to the grand- and great grandchildren, was a star high school basketball player at Endy School. She loved gardening and beach trips, and was an amazing cook and baker. She was well known in the family as a skilled but merciless Canasta player.
Mrs. Earnhardt was blessed to work in public service at the Stanly County Tax Office. Subsequently she worked at Starnes Jewelers which brought her great joy and from which she eventually retired. She then transitioned to another role which she loved dearly: service as a dedicated member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Joseph Earnhardt. She is survived by sister Ricardo Small, her son Joe Earnhardt and wife Jackie of Carolina Shores, NC; two grandchildren, Ashley Lemons (Chad) of Durham, NC, and Jason Earnhardt (Julie) of Oxford, NC; and three great grandchildren, Kolbe Earnhardt, Braydan Earnhardt and Kinsley Earnhardt. Velma is preceded in death by her sisters Geneva Martin and Jewel Carter and brothers Newell Almond and Alton Lambert.
