ALBEMARLE -- Roy Joseph Earnhardt, 80, 24724 Canton Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2002) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born March 15, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Earnhardt, a son of the late Jacob Thadieus and Lucy Jane Lentz Earnhardt, was a graduate of the Rowan County schools.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre, Battle of the Bulge and Bastone.

Retired from Stanly County, he was a veterans service officer. He was employed at AllStar Mills for 30 years.

A member of Canton Baptist Church, he was a deacon, former chairman of the deacon board and held other church offices. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 348, was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include wife Velma Lambert Earnhardt; son Joe O. Earnhardt, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister Oneida Wyatt, Badin; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m., Friday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ken Gibson and the Rev. Farrell Shimpock. Burial, Canton Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Canton Baptist Church, Building Fund.
