Rev. Yates Millard Brooks

Rev. Yates Millard Brooks, 90, of New London passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.  His funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Highland Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. Doland Humphries officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 PM in the Family Life Center of Highland Baptist Church.

Born November 4, 1926 in Lincoln County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Brooks and Fannie Saine Brooks and was a Baptist Minister and carpenter.  He received his BA from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem and his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forrest, NC.  He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.  Rev. Brooks though retired continued to preach and enjoyed building grandfather clocks and other furniture.  He was a veteran of the US Navy.

Rev. Brooks is survived by his wife Merle Hastings Brooks of the home.  Other survivors include daughters Rita Brooks Comer and husband Danny  and Chris Brooks Speight and husband David, 8 grandchildren and  13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa Brooks Hatley.

The family wishes to thank all those that loved and supported him through his illness.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Homecare and Hospice of Troy.
