SALISBURY - Timothy "Tim" Irvin Hand, 48, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at his residence.

Tim was born March 29, 1959, in Rowan County, a son of Mary Frances Eagle Hand of Salisbury and the late Harold "Jack" Hand.

A 1977 graduate of East Rowan High School, Tim was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He was an Emergency Medical Technician, an employee of Invista for 30 years, a member of the Invista Emergency Response Team, member of Liberty Volunteer Fire Dept for 32 years and was presently a Lieutenant. He was a life-member of Rowan Rescue Squad with 25 years of active service.

Tim was an Eagle Scout and a former member of Scout Troop 333, a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657, the Oasis Temple and the Rowan County Shrine Club.

In addition to his father, Tim was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Cordell Hand, on September 11, 2006.

Tim is survived by his wife, Gayle Clontz Hand, whom he married June 5, 1977; son Timothy "Eric" Hand and wife Mary of Salisbury; a daughter, Tabitha Hand Smith and husband Greg of Salisbury; his mother, Mary Frances Eagle Hand of Salisbury; brothers James David Hand and Harold Wayne Hand, both of Salisbury; and grandchildren Braxton and Kiersten Smith and Cooper Hand.

Services: The funeral service will be Thursday, March 6 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Coble, pastor, and the Rev. Eddie Hodge officiating. Mr. Hand will lie in-state for 45 minutes prior to the service. Firefighters and emergency services personnel will be seated as a group in th church. Mr. Hand will have full Firefighters Honors by the Rowan County Fire Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, 135 St. Matthews Church Road, Salisbury.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Building and Improvement Fund, Family Life Center, or St. Matthews Men in Mission, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146; or Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, 135 St. Matthews Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
