Walter Ralph Shepherd, Sr.
Walter Ralph Shepherd, Sr., 81, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Liberty Lane Hospice House at W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury with his wife of 60 years at his side. He was born in Rowan County on June 13, 1936 to the late Minnie Grace Smith Shepherd and the late Charlie Calvin Shepherd.
Ralph graduated from Rockwell High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He worked on sub stations for Duke Power company and was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Shepherd was preceded in death by a son, Walter Ralph Shepherd, Jr., and brothers, Coy Shepherd and Charlie Shepherd. Ralph is survived by his wife, Frances Phillips Shepherd, of Salisbury, daughter, Lori Coffey (Ron) of Mt. Sterling, KY, brother, Albert Shepherd of Salisbury, sister, Elizabeth File, of Lexington, grandson, Sean Coffey, his best buddy, Dale Boger, and feline companion, Lucky. Service: Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday March 3, 2018 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Coble officiating, Military Honors will be accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard. Memorials can be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, or Liberty Lane Hospice @ WG Bill Hefner VA Medical Center. Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Shepherd family.
