Norman “Ray” Blume

Norman “Ray” Blume, 77, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017. 

Ray was born March 5, 1940, in Salisbury to the late Gladys and George Blume. 

Ray graduated from Granite Quarry School in 1958, then joined the U.S. Airforce and was stationed at various bases including Lackland Air Base in Texas and Thule Air Base in Greenland. He was very proud to serve his country.

Ray enjoyed traveling, fishing, woodworking, and he had a special passion for coin collecting. He worked years in mobile home manufacturing before progressing to a career with Freightliner until he retired.

Ray was a man of strong character and a loving son, brother, father, and “pawpaw.” He will truly be missed.

Survivors include sisters, Judy Blume Ghent (Bill) of Salisbury and Phyllis Blume Frick (Everette) of Kannapolis; his children, Gina, Kevin (Ann) and Scott (Jennifer) Blume of Salisbury; and grandchildren, Dillon, Wyatt, and Faith Blume, Shelby and Ashley Kate Kesler, Chloe Roberson and Abbey Jarem; and his companion, Linda Ritchie of Salisbury.

Service: A private family graveside service will be held Thursday, June 1, at Historic National Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1-4, Thursday, at Ray’s home.
