Gloria Nitsch

Gloria Lee Nitsch, 79, of Chestertown died of cancer Dec. 9 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a five-week illness.

Mrs. Nitsch was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Galesville to the late Clifford Calvert and Ethelyn Lotta Lee Purner, and graduated from high school in Galesville. She lived in Severna Park for 35 years.

She worked as a secretary for the Washington, D.C., Government and as a realtor in Florida, and at one time was a Girl Scout troop leader.

A homemaker, she enjoyed bowling and was in the Over 200 Club. She also enjoyed waterskiing, playing her organ, dining out, charity work, shopping and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, George W. Nitsch.

Survivors include her former husband, Ralph Thomas Sr. of North Carolina; two sons, Ralph D. "Danny" Thomas Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. and Dean W. Nitsch of Church Hill; one daughter, Linda L. Broughton of Chester; two step-sons, George W. Nitsch Jr. of Pasadena and James E. Nitsch of Baltimore; two step-daughters, Mary R. Wilson and Elizabeth J. Ballwanz of Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in New Cathedral Cemetery.
