SALISBURY - Mr. Ralph Daniel Thomas, 90, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Carillon Assisted Living Center.

Born March 9, 1923, in Rowan County to the late Junius Daniel Thomas and Callie Frick Thomas, he graduated from Granite Quarry High School and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Thomas retired from IBM after 46 years of work in public relations as a meeting coordinator.

Mr. Thomas was a past member of the Civitan Club of Salisbury and a member of Christiana Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death was his daughter, Linda Broughton, on July 20, 2012; brother Carl H. Thomas; and sisters Helen Cowan and Anne Brown.

Surviving are his son, Ralph D. "Danny" Thomas Jr. and wife Terri of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters Joyce Trexler, Kay Abernathy and Betty Rose Witty and husband Bill, all of Salisbury, and June Owen and husband Robert of Corpus Cristi, Texas; brothers Howard Thomas of Sachse, Texas, and Larry Thomas and wife Jeanne of Mooresville; granddaughter Kristy Thomas Hui-Hui and husband Eddie of Kona-Kailua, Hawaii; and great-granddaughter Malie.

Service and Visitation: A memorial service will be held Monday (Aug. 19) at conducted by Pastor Carl Haynes at Summersett Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Carillon Assisted Living Center and Rowan Hospice for their loving care of Mr. Thomas.

Memorials: May be made to Christiana Lutheran Church, Roof Fund, or Wounded Warrior Project.

Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Thomas family.
