Notes for Billie Meredith Crossett
Billie Merdith Crossett

Billie Merdith Crossett, 93 of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, May 5th 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 11, 1923 a son of the late William and Zula Crossett. He was educated in Rowan County Schools and Rowan Tech. Bill was a member of Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith and a Charter Member of the American Legion Post 327.

A Veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Marine Corps, with the 314 Marine Fighter Squadron serving in the Pacific Theater, including the battle of Okinawa and the occupation of Kyuahu, Japan.

He was employed at Miller Equipment Company for 35 years, retiring as plant supervisor. He was last employed with Southern Engineering in Charlotte.

In their 73 years of marriage, Bill and Frances had to endure the separation of war, the loss of two courageous sons to cancer, Garrett in 1967 and Ron in 2014 and the heartbreaking loss of their dear granddaughter, Kristen Hinds in 2007. Also preceding him in death are siblings, Howard Crossett, Juanita Riley and Virginia Proctor.

Left to cherish his memory, his wife Frances McCombs Crossett whom he married November 10, 1943. Son, Richard and wife Judy; daughters, Barbara Hinds and husband Mark, Deanna Wagoner and husband Dewey, Jane Wagoner and husband Arnold. Grandchildren, Brandon Hinds, Joshua Wagoner and wife Rachelle, Meredith Poole and husband Dustin, Rebekah Haire and husband Curtis and Ryan Moody. Bill was a hardworking provider that gave his all to provide a home of love and kindness. With his sharp wit and gentle touch, discipline was made easy with only a stern look. He was caring to his wife and deeply respected and loved by his children and grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Reformed Church Cemetery with Rev. Richard Myers officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by the United States Marines and the Rowan County Honor Guard.
