Edith Bowers Coggin

NEW LONDON - Edith Bowers Coggin, 92, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born Nov. 15, 1920, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late William Deberry Bowers and Lilly Cannup Bowers. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the New London School Cafeteria and Richfield Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of Richfield Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Coggin in 2008 after 64 years of marriage and grandson, Doug Coggin.

She is survived by sons, Bill Coggin and wife Judy Shue Coggin of Martinsville, Va., Charles Coggin and wife Pam Lowder Coggin of New London, Rita Efird and husband Mike of Salisbury and Joyce Coggin of Raleigh; grandchildren, Todd Coggin, Marie Auten, Sara Almond, Candace Almond, and Adam Efird and four great-grandchildren.

Service: 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the New London Cemetery.

Visitation: 2-2:45 p.m. on Sunday at Stanly Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.

Memorials: Hospice of Stanly County, Richfield Baptist Church, or Trinity Living Center, Salisbury.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Trinity Living Center in Salisbury, Hospice of Stanly County and Dr. Rufus Lefler for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Coggin.
