Lou Ellen Owen Efird

Lou Ellen Owen Efird, of Carolina Beach, crossed over into the loving arms of her Lord November 25, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1921 in Liberty, Tennessee, to the late John Ervin Owen and Bonnie Jennings Owen.

She is preceded in death by husband John Maxwell Efird and daughter Lilly Ann Niedens.

Lou was woman of the year in 2000, served with the Kure Memorial Lutheran Church Council, was President of the ELCA and a member of the Lutheran bi-monthly prayer group in her home. She was also a member of the Carolina Beach Garden Club and the Katie B. Hines Senior Center. She also completed the BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP and encouraged many others to join.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Efird of Carolina Beach, and son, Joe Efird and daughter-in-law Leona of Delaplane, VA; eight grandchildren: Carmen Henderson of Apopka, Florida, Todd Henderson of Winter Garden, Florida, Andrea Esparza of Miami, Florida, Valerie Efird of Lewiston, Idaho, Laura Efird of Oakton, Virginia, Phil Niedens of Raleigh, NC, Vicky Spain of Columbia, Missouri, Eddie Niedens of Syracuse, NY; and seven great-grandchildren: Arden Moffitt, Peyton Moffitt, Lauren Henderson, Mia Esparza, Emma Esparza, Tahkota Prout and David Niedens.

The family will receive family and friends from 6:30-8:00pm Friday, November 29, 2013 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Kure Memorial Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank Trinity Grove for their outstanding love and compassion shown to mother and our family, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Kure Memorial Lutheran Church for their prayers and support throughout the years.
