Herman F. Lipe

LANDIS --Herman Ford Lipe, 84, 604 W. Rice St., died Saturday (Jan. 24, 2004) at the W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born on May 7, 1919, in Rowan County, Mr. Lipe was a son of the late Hobert and Lillie Cline Lipe.

A graduate of Landis High School and Salisbury Business College, he served with the Army's 69th Infantry Division during World War II, reaching the rank of staff sergeant.

He was an overseer in the sewing department at Cannon Mills Co. and worked with the Railway Postal Service.

He was employed with the U.S.Postal Service in Charlotte for 31 years and received many awards, including the Superior Accomplishments Award in 1961.

Mr. Lipe was a charter member of the Kannapolis Golf Club and a member of the Landis Lions Club, American Legion and DAV. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include wife Rubenia Harrington Lipe; son Herman Doyle Lipe, Salisbury; daughter Priscilla Lipe, Burlington; brothers Ross and Ronnie Lipe, both of China Grove; sister Joyce Gordon, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Randy Fleming. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home
