ROCKWELL -- Ethel Mae Swinson Sides, 88, Rockwell, died Thursday (May 12, 2005) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born Sept. 26, 1916 (gravestone has 1915), in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Sides, a daughter of the late Grover and Mary Shinn Swinson, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a homemaker.

A volunteer at Hefner VA Medical Center, she was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Rockwell Rural Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband, James Cleveland Sides, died May 9, 1992, and a son, Glenn Albert Sides, died July 25, 2004.

Survivors include son David Sides, Salisbury; brothers Arie and Charlie Swinson, both of Rockwell; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Powles Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor, St. James Lutheran Church. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
