Geneva 'Sis' Kepley Brown

FAITH - Geneva "Sis" Kepley Brown, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Jan. 25, 2014 at Genesis Nursing Home.

Sis was born July 17, 1919 in Davidson County to the late Arthur Albert Kepley and Jessie Wood Kepley. She attended public schools in Rowan County.

Sis married Carl James "Rink" Brown on July 25, 1941. They had their first child, the late Tony Ray Brown, just before Rink joined the Army. After the war, they built their house on Faith Road and had two daughters, Carol Nadine and Donna Jean.

Sis loved her church where she was an active member. She was in the choir, President of the WMU, head of the bereavement and tape ministries, and was one of the first women deacons.

Sis was a very talented seamstress. She began sewing at an early age in order to have the clothes she needed during the Depression and the war. Later she made all of the clothes for her and her children.

Sis was also very active in the Faith community. She was a member and former President of the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1997 she was chosen Citizen of the Year by the Faith Civitans. She was unselfish with her time and money when it came to helping those in need, always having a sweet, humble spirit about her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rink, three brothers Paul, Thurman (Blue), and Garner Kepley, her son Tony, and her son-in-law Terry Jones.

Sis is survived by her two daughters, Donna Hooks and Deanie Jones; one son-in-law, Bobby Hooks; one daughter-in-law, Connie Brown; seven grandchildren, Ashlee Claude (Greg), Wendy Lee (Dale), Paige Crowe (Daniel), Shelley Pence (John), Elizabeth Morrow (Dan), Rebecca Hooks (Scott) and Ryan Brown (Christy) and 12 great-grandchildren.
