SALISBURY - Johnny Wesley Bame, Jr., 83, of Salisbury, formerly of Gold Hill, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Salisbury.

Johnny was born, Oct. 16, 1926, in Rowan County, the son of the late Johnny W. Bame, Sr. and Mary Hoffner Bame. Educated in Rowan County schools, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell, a former Council Member and former Sunday School secretary.

Johnny was a veteran of the U.S. Army Paratroopers during World War II and served two tours of duty in Japan. He retired from Cannon Mills after 47 years of service. Johnny enjoyed farming and gardening.

Survivors include wife Evelyn "Ebb" Trexler Bame of Salisbury, whom he married July 1948; sisters Mariam Elizabeth Griffin of Mint Hill, Mary C. Earnhardt of Charlotte; sisters-in-law Rachel Bame of Lincolnton, Edna Trexler of Gold Hill and Kat Trexler of Rockwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Bruce Sheeks, Pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and NC National Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2070 Emanuel Church Road, Rockwell, NC 28138.
