Gerald Herrin

Gerald West Herrin, 87, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

He was born October 24, 1927, the son of the late Bernice Lowder Herrin and Daniel Monroe Herrin, Sr.

Gerald graduated from China Grove High School and Salisbury Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a manufacturer’s representative for Rambo Sales. He mentored young men of our community as manager of Carolina Ventilated Awning Company. He served the Lord faithfully at First Baptist Church of Salisbury and Faith Baptist Church of Faith. Gerald served as deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher, and as youth leader influenced many lives for Christ. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, the Atlanta Braves, and most of all being with his family. Gerald was a charter member of the Faith Civitan Club and received the Lifetime Member Award.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by grandchildren, Meredith and William; great-grandchildren Levi and Kinsley; son-in-law, Neil Barlow; brothers, Daniel, Cecil, and Joe Herrin and sister, Peggy Rary.

Those left to cherish his memories are wife, Bonnie Heilig Herrin who he married August 31, 1946; daughters, Kay Dover (Bill) and DeeDee Moody ( Charles) of Salisbury, Jane Dickens (Tom) of Raleigh, Lou Anne Erdman (Rich) of Dallas, Georgia; sisters, Doris Rota (John) of Washington State and Joyce Clark of Texas; grandchildren, April Chandler (Stephen), Joel Dover (Kimberly), CJ Moody (Holly), Skip Erdman (Stephanie), Jonathan Erdman (Ashley), Andrew Erdman (Sarah), Ben Erdman (Kaylee), and David Barlow; and great-grandchildren, Spencer Chandler, Harrison Chandler, Olivia Chandler, Charlotte Chandler, Megan Dover, Jake Dover, Allison Dover, Abigail Erdman, Nathaniel Erdman, Micah Erdman, Caleb Erdman, Ryder Erdman, Amoura Taylor and two arriving in November.

Service: A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014,at the First Baptist Church of Salisbury conducted by the Dr. Kenneth Lance, Dr. Joel Dover and Rev. Rich Erdman. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be in First Baptist Columbarium. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Funeral Home Volunteer Honor Guard.

Correction

SALISBURY - Gerald West Herrin, 87, of Salisbury, who died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, is survived by a great-grandson, Brooks Moody, who was omitted from an earlier obituary.
