SALISBURY - "Ethel" Viola Oddie Poole, 89, of Salisbury, passed away Nov. 16, 2009, at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Mrs. Poole was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Henry Elbert Oddie and Nina Marie Eller Oddie. Mrs. Poole attended Rowan Academy, worked for McKanaw Mills and retired from Rowan Industries.

She was a member of St. Luke's Reformed Church, where she was a life-member of the Women's Fellowship and also had served on the Church Council.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Oddis Theodore Poole, Sr., on May 3, 1999; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors are three sons, James R. Poole and wife Nell, Oddis "Bill" Poole, Jr. and wife Michelle, Rickey D. Poole and wife Jenny, all of Salisbury; one brother, Charlie Oddie; one sister, Mrs. Frances Wells of Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Reformed Church, conducted by Pastor Johnny Boggs and the Rev. Freddie Rimer of South Carolina. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
