Jane Yerby Shaver

ASHEVILLE Jane Yerby Shaver, 80, of Morris Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Memorial Mission Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Central United Methodist Church Chapel, of which she was a member. The Rev. Carol Ploch will officiate.

A native of Macon, Ga., she was a homemaker for 35 years, before returning to the work force in 1980, in the office of the Childrens Home Society of North Carolina. She and her husband had resided in Greensboro for 25 years before moving to Asheville in 1994. Mrs. Shaver enjoyed golf, swimming, dancing, and was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro. More recently, she attended the Adult Day Club at the Asheville Jewish Community Center. Mrs. Shaver was preceded in death by a son, James C. Shaver.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Robert Shaver; two daughters, Kathy Shaver of Washington, D.C., Jean Karpen and husband, Joe of Weaverville; two sons, Larry Shaver of Greensboro, David and wife, Elizabeth Shaver of Swannanoa; one sister, Marguerite Simmons of Suwanee, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Asheville Jewish Community Center, 236 Charlotte St., Asheville, NC; or the MANNA Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville, NC.
