Norma Jean Lester
Norma Jean Lester, 88, of Gold Hill, died peacefully at her home with her daughter and son-in law by her side after a two devastating strokes and battling sarcoma for the last two years..
She was born November 21, 1933 in Salisbury, NC to the late George and Bertha Basinger Hill. Norma was a graduate of Rockwell High School. She was a member First Baptist Church of Rockwell and the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed traveling and going on farm tours with Darrell Blackwelder.
Norma was a Navy wife for 20 years, following her husband to many placing including Virginia, Maryland, Alabama, Jacksonville FL, Rivera Beach FL, and Marietta, GA.
Norma eventually retired and returned to Gold Hill and built on the farm she grew up on.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Harold Lester, sister, Mae Stikelleather, and brothers, John Hill, Sr., Delmer Hill, and Carlee Hill.
Norma is survived by her daughter, LeighAnne Ragan and husband Otis of Gold Hill; special nieces and nephew who Norma raised, Betty Castle, Brenda Luther, and John Hill, Jr.; nieces, Carol Stewart, Penny Hill Clarke, Debbie Merritt; and many other family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Rockwell Cemetery with Rev. Mathew Laughter officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rockwell, PO Box 756, Rockwell, NC, or the Gideons East Rowan Chapter, or Novant Hospice 1229 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury NC.
