Nellie Rose Brown

Nellie Rose Swicegood Brown, 81, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Harold "Herb" Eugene Brown whom she married on July 7, 1956.

Nellie was born on May 27, 1935 to the late Louie Alexander and Mary Kluttz Swicegood in Salisbury, NC. She attended school at Spencer High School and graduated in 1953. After graduation, she attended Salisbury Business School for 2 years. Nellie provided child care for the community in her home for years and also worked at the snack bar in Walmart.

Nellie enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Soap Operas on TV. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Nellie was a lifetime Lutheran and was a proud member of St. Peter's Lutheran church and WELCA. She was a scout master and also taught Sunday School for over 50 years, starting when she was just 13, and stopped only when her health began to decline.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Elaine" Brown Sapp (Timothy Neal Sapp ) of Salisbury, NC; son, Harold Eugene "Gene" Brown Jr. (Delena Brown ) of Macon, GA; two grandsons, Jeremy Sapp and Joshua Horton; and sister, Louise Weant of Zebulon, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Morgan and her brother, Louie Alexander Swicegood, Jr.

A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 6:30-8 pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 2570 St Peters Church Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Sean Barrett, Pastor, officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kim Myers, Dr. John Gerig, and Rowan Hospice for the special care they gave to Nellie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care.
