SALISBURY - Mr. Harold "Herb" Eugene Brown, 76, of Salisbury, died Wednesday March 7, 2007 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

He was born Sept. 1, 1930 in Rowan County the son of the late Ervin J. Brown and Mary Brady Brown. He attended the Gold Knob School and Rockwell High School. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. Mr. Brown had been a Brick Mason with the Brown Brothers and retired from Oakwood Homes with 20 years of service. He had been a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, life member of Rockwell Amvets Post #845, member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657, Miller-Russell American Legion Post #112 in Rockwell. He loved to cook BBQ.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by brothers, Hadred Brown, Carr Brown, Herman Brown, Larry Brown and sister Rebecca B. Cozart.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Swicegood Brown whom he married on July 7, 1956; son, Harold "Gene" Brown, Jr. and wife Delena of Macon, Ga.; daughter, Elaine Sapp and husband Tim of Salisbury; brothers, John Brown of Salisbury, Ned Brown and wife Margaret of Gold Hill; sisters, Rose Holshouser and Martha Eller and husband Ned of Salisbury and grandsons, Jeremy Sapp of Salisbury and Joshua Horton of Macon , Ga.

Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. David Ridenhour, Pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Rowan County Honor Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, or to The Nazareth Children's Home.
