SALISBURY - Mr. John Mitchel Brown, 93, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Mr. Brown was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Rowan County, a son of the late Ervin Jacob Brown and Easter Trexler Brown. Mr. Brown attended Gold Knob School and retired from Cannon Mills Plant 7.

He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and a lifetime member of Miller-Russell American Legion Post 112. He was a member of Rowan County American Legion Baseball Committee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lee Hagler Brown; stepmother Mary Brady Brown; sister Rebecca Cozart; granddaughter Crystal Earnhardt, who passed away on Jan. 23, 2010; and by six brothers.

Mr. Brown is survived by his sons, Mitchel Brown of Salisbury, Kevin Brown and wife Laura of Concord; sisters Rose Swicegood of Rockwell, Martha Eller of Salisbury; grandson Tyler Brown and wife Kayla; and great-grandchildren Anaiya Brown, Logan Brown, Abel Brown, Aiden "T.J." Brown and Larren Kluttz.

Graveside Service: Monday, June 27 at The U.S. National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC, at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. David Ridenhour, pastor of Saint Peters Lutheran Church with military graveside rites conducted by the North Carolina National Guard and the Rowan County Veteran Honor Guard. The Patriot Guard will escort Mr. Brown to the National Cemetery.
