Notes for Jimmy Maxwell Lefler
Jimmy Maxwell Lefler

SALISBURY - Jimmy Maxwell Lefler, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at his home in Salisbury.

He was born in Rowan County on Aug. 19, 1933, a son of the late Oliver West and Pauline Lyerly Lefler.

A 1951 graduate of Rockwell High School, he began work as a grocer and later became part owner of K and L Grocery in Rockwell until 1968. At that time, he began his employment with Electric Wholesale Company in Salisbury, where he held various positions until his retirement in 1998.

He served the Lord for many years as a Deacon in his church and was a current member of Faith Baptist Church in Faith. He loved the Lord; and his family will always remember him reading his Bible and having his daily morning devotions.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lydia Jean Kepley Lefler; son Neil Lefler of Rockwell; two daughters, Gina Cartner and husband James of Greenville, S.C., and Marcy Brown and husband Chris of Lancaster, S.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Ludwig and husband J.D. and Linda Merrell and husband Lanny of Rockwell.

Visitation and Services: A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Faith Baptist Church in Faith, conducted by Rev. Joe Smith, pastor, and Rev. Joey Phillips, associate pastor of Grace Bible Church.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at The Gables at Kepley Farms Clubhouse.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, or Faith Baptist Church.

Special Thanks to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care Center and Dr. Brinkley and staff at Carolina Oncology for their care and compassion.

Powles Funeral Home is assisting the Lefler family.
