Shirley Jane Peeler Rhinehart

Shirley Jane Peeler Rhinehart, 92, of Yadkinville, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

She was born December 24, 1930, daughter of the late Gurney R. Peeler, Sr. and Lola Basinger Peeler. Mrs. Rhinehart was educated in Rowan County Schools and graduated from Granite Quarry School in 1950.

Mrs. Rhinehart was married on October 29, 1950 at St. Luke's Reformed Church by the Rev. A.C. Peeler. She was a life long member of St. Luke's Reformed Church where she was a life member of the Women's Fellowship, and served in many phases of church work throughout her life. She retired from Catawba College after 32 years, while employed she received the Trustee Award and the Tribute of Exemplary Life Service Award. Shirley was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rockwell Chapter #317.

After relocating to Yadkinville she found her church home at Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville, where she continued her church service. She was very active in the Women's Bible Study group on Monday afternoons, she often referred her group as the "Monday Scholars" and found great pleasure interacting with these sisters.

Her greatest joy included spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren and her pawed protector- Kelby.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce A. Rhinehart on November 17, 1989; sister, Lois Gulledge on August 17, 2007, and daughter Cynthia Hemmings on November 14, 2015.

Mrs. Rhinehart is survived by her daughter, Patti Morgan (Tim) of Yadkinville; grandsons, Chris Morgan (Alexis) of East Bend and Jon Morgan (Jessica) of Leander, TX; great-grandchildren, Addison and Carly Jane of East Bend, Hadley and Henry of Leander, TX; sister, Nell Poole (James) of Salisbury; brother, Gurney Peeler, Jr. (Pam) of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 04, 2023 in St. Luke's Reformed Church in Salisbury, with Rev. Jon Schell and Rev. Jimmy Lancaster, officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Luke's Reformed Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice in Yadkinville for their excellent care and prayers, as well as the medical team that provided her care over the years; Thomas Ginn, MD, Gunner Key, MD, and Mark Wimmer, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to a charity of your choice in Shirley's memory.
