Dorothy Maephil Brown

SALISBURY - Dorothy Maephil Beaver Brown, 83, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

Mrs. Brown was born July 23, 1923 in Salisbury to the late Lynn and Jessie Williams Beaver.

She was preceded in death by sister Juanita Olsen and brother Donald Beaver. She is survived by sisters Virginia "Nancy" File and Joyce Brown of Salisbury, Ellen Marticia Mills of Lexington and brother Lawrence Beaver of Carter Lake, Iowa.

Mrs. Brown was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her beloved husband of 62 years, Raymond Junior Brown, preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2005. She is also survived by two daughters, April Brown Sifford and Jackie Brown Frick of Salisbury.

She cherished her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Each of them held a very special place in her heart. Her grandchildren are Dennie, Darren, David and Daniel Sifford, Ashlee Self, Allison and Adam Hahn. Her great-grandchildren are Andrew, Jennifer, Jacob, Shannon, Scott and Savannah Sifford and Brayden and Cohen Self.

She was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and was involved in many church activities. She was a member and teacher of Sunday School Class 14, member of WELCA, secretary of Seasoned Saints, was a life-member of Southern Theological Seminary Auxiliary, former church council member and was instrumental in establishing the church History Room.

Mrs. Brown was a wonderful poet, artist and craftsman. She loved sharing her poetry with family and friends. She enjoyed yoga and was in earlier years a yoga instructor.

Mrs. Brown was educated in the Rowan County schools. She retired from Rowan County Vocational Workshop, where she was an instructor. She also worked for Rowan Industries in Rockwell.

Mrs. Brown was a former Republican precinct chairman and enjoyed working for many years as a Judge and Registrar for the Rowan County Board of Elections, serving the Gold Knob precinct.

Service: The Funeral Service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. David Ridenhour, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation: Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell; and the remainder of the time, at the homes of her daughters.

Memorials: St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund; or Rowan Regional Home Health & Hospice.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is serving the Brown family.
