Raymond Junior Brown

SALISBURY - Raymond Junior Brown, 86, of Salisbury, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several years, but death was unexpected.

Mr. Brown was born in Salisbury on Jan. 21, 1919. He was the youngest of five sons born to Harvey Jeremiah Brown and Delia Brady Brown. His brothers Roy, Marvin, Lester and Everette Brown preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy Maephil Beaver Brown. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is also survived by his two daughters, April Brown Sifford of Granite Quarry and Jackie Brown Frick and husband Charles of Salisbury. He was also a wonderful grandfather and loved his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren dearly. His grandchildren are Dennie, Darren, David and Daniel Sifford and Ashlee Self, Allison Misenheimer and Adam Hahn. His great-grandchildren are Andrew, Jennifer, Jacob, Shannon, Scott and Savannah Sifford and Brayden and Cohen Self.

Mr. Brown was a lifelong member of St. Peter 's Lutheran Church in Salisbury. He was a member of the Men 's Sunday School Class, the Lutheran Men 's Brotherhood and the Seasoned Saints. He was educated at Gold Knob School and Rockwell High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1942, where he was a Surgical Technician in the 83rd Medical Battalion. He served our country in Germany during World War II and received a Purple Heart. After discharge from the Army, he worked at Cannon Mills, the VA Medical Center and retired in 1982 from Fiber Industries. He also loved farming.

Service : Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter 's Lutheran Church in Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. David Ridenhour, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Rowan County Honor Guard.

Visitation : Visitation will be 2-4 today at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell, and the remainder of the time, at the home of daughter Jackie Brown Frick in Salisbury.
