ROCKWELL - Hoyt Grasham Bost, 88, of Rockwell, passed away Sept. 15, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

He was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Zeb L. Bost and Agnes Smith Bost. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on a Sea Going Rescue Tug Boat in the U.S. Navy, and graduated from Rockwell High School in 1939.

Hoyt was co-owner and operator of Dixie Lumber Company and had worked in the lumber industry following his service in the Navy.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a former church council member. He was also a member of Miller Russell American Legion and Twice Past Master of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657. He was a member and past president of Rowan County Shrine Club, a member of the Oasis Temple and a member of Rockwell Chapter 317 OES.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Nell Brown Bost, on Sept. 3, 2008; two brothers, James L. Bost and Paul M. Bost; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lee Bost Agner.

Survivors include three brothers, George F. Bost of Kannapolis, Zeb J. Bost of Gold Hill and R. Wayne Bost of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Bost Brown of Rockwell and Mrs. Hazel Shive of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, Pastor, with burial in the Brookhill Memorial Gardens. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657, and Military graveside rites by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Rowan County Honor Guard.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, or Rockwell Chapter 317 OES.
