SALISBURY - David Matthew Shaver, 84, of Salisbury, died Oct. 13, 2006, at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Mr. Shaver was born Dec. 10, 1921, a son of the late James David Shaver and Elizabeth Waller Shaver. He graduated from Richfield High School, worked for Cannon Mills Plant 7 and retired from Celanese. He also worked part-time painting with his brothers. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He was a member of Vanhoy-Sells VFW Post 9140.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Margie Robison Shaver, on Feb. 21, 2006.

He is survived by son Tony Shaver and wife Nash of Salisbury; daughter Bonnie S. Rudisill and husband John of Charlotte; brother Lee Shaver of Salisbury; and grandchildren Ryan and Drew Shaver of Rockwell and Whitney and Zach Rudisill of Charlotte.

Service: The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Powles Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. C.P. Fisher, interim pastor, Union Lutheran Church. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard at Brookhill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rockwell.

Visitation: 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
