Marvin Eugene Weant

Marvin Eugene Weant, 79, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. 

He was born August 1, 1938 in Rowan County to late Marvin and Lola Brown Weant. Marvin was the Valedictorian of the 1956 class of Rockwell High School, and he was a 1965 graduate of NC State University earning a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. Marvin worked as a Electrical Engineer for Carolina Power & Light, retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. Marvin was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Marvin was a member of Christiana Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the New Life Sunday School Class, the Chancel Choir, and the Stewardship Committee. Marvin and Betty were charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC; and A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church in Charlotte, NC. Marvin was a very active at all of his churches, he served as treasurer and on church council. 

Marvin was a Ham Radio operator, his call was WB4MQY, he also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club in Watauga and Rowan Counties.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Weant.

Marvin is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Betty Lou Weant, whom he married May 15, 1960; sister, Lucille Ketchie of Athens, GA; and nephew, David Weant and wife Shelia of Concord; he is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Christiana Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Pastor Carl Haynes, officiating. Mr. Weant will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Grace Lower Stone Reformed Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Air Force.

After the graveside service the family return to Christiana Lutheran Church for a time of food and fellowship. All are invited to join them in the Smith Assembly Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brighten the Beacon Fund at Christiana Lutheran Church; or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Tampa FL; or to the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff, nurses and doctors at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House and Dr. Wimmer and staff at Carolina Oncology for their love, care and support.
