SALISBURY - Ollie James Watkins, 80, of Satellite Beach, Fla., formerly of Salisbury, died at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melborne, Fla., on Thursday, March 15, 2007, after a period of declining health.

Mr. Watkins was born in Rowan County on July 15, 1926. He was the son of the late David H. Watkins and Annie Elliotte Watkins. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and had special training in music.

Mr. Watkins served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He had worked at the Southern Railway Shop in Spencer before moving to Florida and worked for Pan American Air Line until his retirement.

A former member of Calvary Baptist Church, after moving to Florida, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Eau Gallie, Fla. He served as pianist and organist at both of these churches.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Wyatt Watkins; sons Roger D. Watkins of Cocoa, Fla., and Scotty L. Watkins of Huntsville, Ala.; brother Garry Watkins of Salisbury; and sister Ruth Furr of Salisbury. Three grandchildren also survive him.

A son, Tony Curtis Watkins, preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2000.

Visitation: 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral services will be in Summersett Memorial Chapel Saturday at 12 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Jerry P. Wilkes. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Eau Gallie, Fla., on April 3, 2007.

Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Watkins family.
