Pearl Sides Barringer

ROCKWELL - Pearl Sides Barringer, 101, of Rockwell, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury.

Pearl was born October 19, 1906, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Julian H. Sides and Cora Trexler Sides. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and Rockwell High School.

Pearl was a life-member of St. James Lutheran Church and WELCA and was the oldest member of the church. She was a member of the Daisy Trexler Sunday School Class, was the church organist for 25 years and sang in the church choir as long as her health permitted.

Pearl was a charter member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club and a member of Rockwell Eastern Star 317. Pearl had worked for Cannon Mills for 26 years and Taylor's 5&10 for 14 years, retiring in 1987.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther C. Barringer, in 1967; daughter Doris Lynette Barringer; sisters Lucille Poole, Ruth Carter, Vera Holshouser; brother Earl Luther Sides; great-granddaughter Tamara Michelle Efird; and great-great-grandchild Gavin Wayne Moose.

Survivors include daughter Laura "Jane" Deal of Salisbury; son "Clyde" Aaron Barringer of Rockwell; five granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 great- great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 29 at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Craig Sigmon, Pastor. The Young at Heart Senior Citizens Group will be seated in a group at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Building Fund.
