Notes for Lee Franklin Ribelin
Lee Franklin Ribelin

Longtime Alaskan Lee Franklin Ribelin, 79, died July 17, 1995, at the Mary Conrad Center. A memorial service was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel downtown. Alaska Lutheran Synod Pastor, the Rev. Larry Jorgenson, officiated. Mr. Ribelin's ashes were scattered over the Big Oshetna River near Glennallen.

Mr. Ribelin was born March 26, 1916, in Albemarle, N.C., to George and Dona Lee Ribelin, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Over the years, he worked for Anchorage Body and Paint, Alaska Sales & Service and Anchorage Chrysler. He had converted numerous Army trucks into swamp buggies for hunting and fishing in the Big Oshetna River country near Glennallen. He hunted and fished that area since coming to Alaska in 1956, and thoroughly enjoyed taking people with him, his family said. When he wasn't hunting or fishing, he could usually be found working on his swamp buggies.

Mr. Ribelin is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Terry of Anchorage, James and Ginger of Central Point, Ore., and Donald and Dana of Everett, Wash.; two sisters, Viola Almond of New London, N.C., and Edith Whitley of Asheboro, N.C.; sister-in-law, Daisey Ribelin of Albemarle; grandchildren, Jeff, Sandra, Daniel and Douglas Ribelin, Lisa Lofer and Deborah Richter; great-grandchildren, Brittany Ribelin and Kayla and Tyler Lofer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James.

Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society; or Mary Conrad Center, Anchorage.
