CHINA GROVE -- Phillip Ray Simpson, 69, died September 21, 2007 at his home, 2335 Brown Road, China Grove, after a nine month battle with leukemia. He was born March 26, 1938 in Rowan County to the late Charles H. Simpson and Evelyn Menius Simpson Corriher.
Mr. Simpson graduated from Rockwell High School in 1956. He owned and operated the Rockwell Dairy Bar from 1966 to 1974. He retired from Desco, Inc. in 2003 as President and CEO after 41 years of service. He also served on the Board of Directors of the IMARK group for electrical distributors.
Mr. Simpson was a veteran of the United States Navy serving for four years, also a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #283 AF&AM, Scottish Rite, Oasis Temple, and the Rowan Shrine Club.
Mr. Simpson was a loving husband and father.
The funeral will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove with Rev. William Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church at 7:00 PM. The headquarters will be in the residence in China Grove, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy Leonard Simpson; son, Michael Simpson of Charleston, SC; daughter, Ashley Volz and husband, Nick of Bloomington, IN; and brother, Monty L. Simpson and wife, Gail of Trinity, NC.
Memorials may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 311 Judges Rd., Suite 1E, Wilmington, NC, or Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC.
