SALISBURY - Mr. Ronald E. Rogers, age 78, of Salisbury, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at Rowan Regional Medical Center from kidney failure. He had been in declining health for the past six years.

Mr. Rogers was born March 24, 1932, in Salisbury, a son of the late Hubert Eugene Rogers and Ruth Ann Younce Rogers.

Ronald was a 1950 graduate of Rockwell High School and served in the United States Army from Jan. 11, 1952, to Jan. 12, 1954, in the Signal Support Company as a Corporal. He owned and operated Ronald E. Rogers Trucking for more than 50 years, delivering sand and gravel throughout the community.

He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, the Cemetery Committee for 40 years where he was responsible for laying off graves, and was a member of John's Sunday School Class.

Ronald, known to many as "Runt," was known for his generosity and community involvement. He served as a member of Liberty Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. For entertainment, he greatly enjoyed getting outdoors on his golf cart and taking others for rides.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Fink Rogers, on Nov. 30, 2008. They were married June 14, 1952. His sister, Neola Rogers Hoffner, also preceded him in death.

His children and grandchildren, the center of his world, are Shalyn Barrier and husband Dr. Ronnie Barrier of Salisbury, grandchildren Whitley Barrier, Garrett Moore and wife Jamie Shuler Moore, great-grandchildren Reaghan and Rylan Moore; son Greyland and wife Kim Hill Rogers of Salisbury, grandchildren Colton, Weston and Ashton Rogers; son Kendal and wife Lynn Gobble Rogers of Salisbury, grandchildren Avery and Evan Rogers; son Kelan Rogers of Salisbury; son Jerren and wife Cindy Marie Rogers of Charlotte, and grandchildren Cole and Chase Rogers. He had two sisters-in-law, Sherry Fink Eagle and husband Joe of Gainesville, Ga., and Kay Fink Rabon and husband Tommy of Shreveport, La.; and a brother-in-law, Ernest Hoffner of Gold Hill.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home on Monday, April 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Graveside Service: 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Funeral Service: A celebration of Ronald's life will follow the graveside service at St. Matthews Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Gary S. Coble pastor.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Life Center, St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
