B.L. "Sonny" Miller, Jr.

Mr. B.L. "Sonny" Miller, Jr., 64, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. He was born April 17, 1950, in Rowan County to the late Baxter Luther "Bud" Miller, Sr. and Dellie Sides Miller.

Sonny attended Granite Quarry School and East Rowan High School. He was a truck driver and was employed by Paul Bost Trucking, Swicegood Paper Corp., and Food Lion, from where he retired April 1, 1999.

Sonny was a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657 and Andrew Jackson Lodge # 576. A member of Oasis Temple, he was also a Rowan County Shriner, where he twice served as President. Sonny was a Past Commander of the Sons of AMVETS and was a licensed auctioneer, who loved helping with charity auctions and helping plan events to help others. He loved fishing and participating in tournaments, and was an avid fisherman on High Rock Lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Elizabeth Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Ann McCarter Miller, whom he married October 17, 1971; son, Buddy Miller of Granite Quarry; daughter Mary Miller Gray of Rockwell; three grandchildren, Luke Miller, Lydia Miller, and Makayla Gray; siblings, Nancy Edwards, Shirley Burleson and husband, Richard, Louise Harrison, James Miller and wife, Linda, Carol Clawson and husband, Tony, and Dale Miller, and wife Michelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, May 24, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 25, at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Powles Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Alan Hess, pastor of the Potter's House Fellowship.

Interment will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites conducted by Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care and the staff of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for the love, care, and support.
