Donald Ray Heglar

Donald Ray Heglar, age 83 of Kannapolis, beloved husband of Frances (Mills) Heglar, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 5, 2022. Born in Rowan County on January 4, 1939 he was the son of the late Marvin Ray and Mildred Irene (Walton) Heglar.

Mr. Heglar was very proud to be an Army veteran. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany being part of Security and Military Police. Mr. Heglar was very well known for calling on hundreds of people per year to sing and wish them a happy birthday. He called on his family, friends and acquaintances he befriended throughout the years and kept written record of each and every single person.

Besides his wife, Frances, he is survived by three daughters, Tamara Gentle (Tim) of Mt. Pleasant, Donna Walls (Ray) of Kannapolis and Debbie Efird (Darrell) of China Grove; seven grandchildren, Justin Wyatt (Alisha), Jessika Helms (Daniel), Brittany Rogers (Adam), Macy Overcash (Brian), Michael Walls, Amanda Williams and Josiah Efird (Maggie); ten great-grandchildren, Braylee, Laci, Tensley, Phillip, Brayden, Landon, Lawson, Milli, Addison and Molli; sister Janette Bame Dixon (Bob). He is also survived by his furry baby cat, Fuzzy.

Visitation and Service: Funeral Services will be held Friday, Dec. 9, 3 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 326 N. Main St, China Grove, with Pastors Carrie Bishop and Joel Ervin to officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Entombment with Military Honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary, 220 Grace Church Rd, Salisbury, NC, or to the charity of one’s choice.
